BIG Day!

"Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song." Psalm 95:1-2

I am so excited as I am writing this tonight---COY TOOK HIS FIRST BOTTLE TODAY!! Not only did he take it, he took all 30 ccs in 15 minutes and wanted more! He did not desat or brady (drop his heart rate) once! I didn't get to feed him because the Occupational Therapist needed to do it to evaluate his "suck, swallow, breathe" reflex, but I was right there cheering him on! He is such a little Gritbaby and we are so proud of him! This is really a HUGE milestone, I mean HUGE. The OT will come back tomorrow and feed him again, if she thinks he's ready, they'll try 2 bottles per day; the rest of the feedings will be gavage (through his NG tube). Eventually, he'll be strong enough to take 8 bottles per day (one every 3 hours round the clock)....This is a picture of Coy after taking his first bottle!

Today "Grams" Cook was able to hold him for the first time! They both thoroughly enjoyed it! Here is a picture...

We have not heard any results of the latest holter monitor, his heart rhythm has been more stable the past few days! He continues to be on 21% (room air) oxygen most of the day, weaning the liter flow will start early next week...He had another eye exam tonight and Dr. Hittner said "things look good!" These exams always make me nervous! He still is having touble "stooling" without a suppository, please pray for poop!

Our God is such an awesome God. I am in awe of his presence and healing in Coy. It was just an amazing day!

Please continue to pray for Coy. We are so appreciative!

I am so excited for ya'll and Coy! He looks adorable!! What a great day! These are the events and the memories that will help you make it through these difficult days in the NICU. These are the ones to hold on to. What a huge milestone today and they will keep on happening. I am so glad the eye test was good and that he did so great with his first bottle! Keep up the good work, Coy! He is really starting to look like a big boy now and so cute in all his clothes! We will continue to pray for Coy's growth and complete healing, and for you and Chris to stay strong together!
Love,
Reyne

Yay!!! I'm so happy for you guys. Coy is such a little fighter. I hope bottle feeding continues to go well, and he is able to fly right through the rest of his NICU stay. Reading your story brings back so many memories...it's great to reminisce. Congratulations to you all.

Love,

How exciting for you! After all you've been through, what joy in getting to experience his first bottle! Many might take this action granted, but you got an extra blessing of joy from it!

Ann Marie you are an inspiration to me. I read your blog and I begin to cry because you have so much inner beauty and strength. You dont realize it yet, but you and Coy are inspiring us all. Chris and you are lucky to have each other and I pray for your precious Coy everyday.

We are so happy to hear Coy is doing well and took his bottle today. Keep up the good work little man! You are such a fighter. Chris and Ann Marie, we pray for the three of you daily and every week put in a prayer request at church for Coy. Stay strong and if there is anything we can do, please let us know.

Holy Cow, Ann Marie!

He sounds just like Jaxson... sucking the bottle down in record time!!!! What a guy!!! Jaxson used to eat so fast and suck so hard (he still does, it's so cute) that he'd forget to breathe, brady and then desat so much! That fantastic news that Coy ate like a little pro!!! What good news... I wish I had checked the blog earlier today. Coy is just such a little cutie, and what fantastic news about his eyes too... I am so happy for you! We will definitely pray for good poops! (we've had our issues there too... I've done a few suppositories since we've been home!)

Love,
Ann

GOOD JOB, GRIT-BABY! You keep on making Grit-man and Grit-mama happy. That makes all of us happy too.

Coy looks like a little baby doll in the picture where he has just taken his bottle. What a cutie pie!

AMEN!! I have to tell you, I was barely able to read the verse because I was so anxious to see the headline!! My entire devotional and prayer time was dedicated to Coy yesterday morning and that he'd be able to take the breast/bottle!! What a answer and blessing!!! He's so precious and looks just like his daddy!!

We will continue to pray for good feeds and more bottles!! Prayers for poop as well...this seems to be an issue with so many babies!! I have one that never stops and one that has a tough time!! LOL!! Praying for y'alls continued strength and this precious 'grit' baby!!

Blessings,
Stephanie
