PT update/ Happy Halloween!

Isn't that the cutest pumpkin ever? =)

Coy had his monthly PT evaluation yesterday and all is well! Sara (our PT) was impressed with his progress and gave us some things to work on this month. He is not crawling yet, but is getting closer and closer each day. We will be working on the "transitions" from siting to crawling and crawling to sitting. We're also gonna work on Coy "pulling/crawling up" on me (which will help him pull up on other things eventually).

Here are a few other pics of Coy playing yesterday...

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!

Halloween!

We couldn't resist dressing Coy up in his Halloween costume last night! He wasn't too happy about it...but doesn't he look so cute? I have to say, Chris & I laughed and laughed...it was so much fun!

almost crawling/GI update

Here is a quick video of Coy 'rocking'...he's really, really close to crawling (my mom thinks it'll be within the next few days!)...he is getting so mobile that he can get across the room in a flash...

Coy is still recovering from his GI bug. I thought he was fully recovered, however, yesterday he threw up his breakfast and continued to have diarrhea. The Pediatrician said "it'll be a week before he feels better." Okay, I understand, but I just feel so sorry for him. She suggested we try Soy formula until his stomach is better and sure enough, that has worked. He has been able to keep it down and he's having less diarrhea.

He had a GI appt already scheduled today and they told me to bring him in although he's been sick. He did lose some weight (from 16 lbs 6 oz to 15 lbs 15 oz), which isn't horrible, but the doctor wants me to keep a close eye on it. Other than that, he thought he looked great.

Hopefully, Coy will be back to normal soon and we can start giving him food again (purees, Stage 2). He loves his baby food and I know he's really missing it!

Here are two other cute pics I got yesterday...He loves to stand up, so we propped him against the couch and he stood holding on to it to all by himself...

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!

Neurology appt & Pumpkin patch

We have all been on the mend from our recent illness, and thankfully, were well enough to make it to the Neurologist today (it took two months to get the appt, so I really didn't want to reschedule!). The doctor was really nice and comforting and we both (Chris & I) liked him. He examined Coy and played with him, watched him track things, sat him up, tested his reflexes, etc. I'm happy to report the doctor thought Coy looked great! He said he did NOT see any signs/symptoms of CP and thought he was doing everything he should be for his adjusted age. Thank you Jesus! He does want us to return in 4-6 months to check on things, but was not concerned about Coy's developmental progress at this point. Another Neurologist Fellow in the room said she'd never seen a baby born at 23 weeks look "as good" as Coy does. She thought he was an "absolute miracle" which is always nice to hear!

We are all feeling better...and finally can eat again--yeah! Coy's still not back to full feeds of milk and food, but we're getting there slowly. Thanks again for all your love and support! We are so grateful for the prayers for our "miracle."

Here are a few pictures from the "pumpkin" patch we visited last Saturday. Coy was in no mood to smile (he probably wasn't feeling well, I just didn't know it yet...), and would rather eat the hay than play with the pumpkins...so these are the best we could do! And, don't worry, it was early, not crowded and no one touched him! =) But we really are staying "'in" now...

....oh, this stinks...

Okay, now Chris & I have the GI bug too. It's pretty bad y'all. I can't believe my poor baby felt this way...

Thankfully, Chris's mom was able to come stay here last night and help with Coy. Chris & I couldn't manage him and our own sickness...

Coy seems to be back to his normal self, however, he did throw up his bottle this morning...

Please pray for us...we're miserable!

sick update

It was determined by Coy's pedi that he has contracted a GI virus. He slept most of last night and woke up this morning feeling better and taking LOTS of Pedialyte (yesterday, I could only get an ounce or two in him every couple hours). Poor guy is really hungry today. I did give him some rice cereal and he tolerated that so far. He is still having some diarrhea, but the vomiting has stopped (Thank goodness!). All in all, I think he's gonna be just fine and this virus will just have to run it's course....thanks for all the prayers and support!

And, I made an error when I said our Neurology appt was on Tuesday...it's Wednesday. So, if on Wednesday, you could keep us in your prayers and thoughts, we would be so thankful!

prayer request

We are in need of prayers this week for two things in particular....

  1. Coy has a stomach bug of sorts and has had vomiting/diarrhea since late Saturday night--pray for this to pass quickly.
  2. We have a Neurology appointment on Tuesday.

He is currently on Pedialyte and keeping most of it down. Please pray for this virus to pass quickly and for our little man to be back to his normal self soon! It is the first time he's really been "sick" and of course it scares us!

Also, if you could keep us in your thoughts and prayers Tuesday as we head to the Neurologist, it would be greatly appreciated! It is the first time Coy will be evaluated by this specialty and I'm nervous for what they will have to say. (I think he's doing wonderfully, but I'm no expert!)

I'll keep you updated on how he's doing...our Pedi is out of town, but will be back tomorrow...if at all possible, we will be avoiding the ER and waiting to see her Monday morning. Thanks for your continued love and support!

eye update

Thanks to the good Lord, Coy's eyes continue to be healed of ROP! Dr. Hittner examined him and then reported, "they couldn't look better." That was music to my ears! We had a 6 week check up yesterday and now don't have to return for 3 months! That's not until 2009! Wow!

Sorry for the lack of updates....our DSL line was somehow out of order these past two days...

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Here's a cute picture from bathtime this week...

Perspective

My mother-in-law had this special doll made for us....it is an exact replica of Coy's measurements at birth (although it does feel heavier than he did). I still remember when he was that tiny (can y'all believe that was only 10 months ago?) and thank God everyday for his precious gifts. He was 1 lb 4 oz at birth and today weighs 16 lbs 5 oz. Thank you Jesus!

fall fun!

We are loving the 'fall' weather we've had here in Houston for the past few days! It usually goes from extra hot and muggy to hot to sorta cool to cold then back to hot. We've taken full advantage of our week long 'fall' season and have been enjoying the outdoors (today was a high of 85 with a nice breeze....Houstonians say, "wow, a cool front must have blown in!" =)

Since it is currently RSV season, that means we have to be diligent at keeping Coy well. We've been instructed by his doctors to stay away from crowds, public places, sorta sick people, sick people, people who've been around sick people, and kids/babies who get sick easily (okay, I'm being sarcastic...they said stay away from people, period!). I've been dreading October for months now because I can't imagine staying in "hibernation" until March. I guess I could take up knitting or something, but that most likely wont happen! I'm happy to say that we've found things to do (out of the house) and we were still able to stay away from crowds. We've enjoyed some nice long walks in our neighborhood and today even ventured to the Zoo! However, I am no longer bringing him to the grocery store (i don't go there much anyway =)) nor Target (my favorite). Coy did get his first Synagis vaccine on Friday which is to help "reduce the severity" of RSV if he does indeed contract it. The vaccine by no means 'prevents' the virus, therefore, we do have to be extra careful with him for the next 5-6 months. He will receive one vaccine per month through March. For one shot, it cost upwards of $1500 and is weight based. Insane! Thank goodness our insurance approved it and are paying in full!

It's amazing to me how much Coy is changing day to day. He's the sweetest thing on the planet and I love him to pieces. He is becoming so active and energetic and it's hard to keep up with him. He's not crawling yet, but keeps rocking on his hands and knees. Chris went from crawling to running at 9 months and by 1 year old had broken a window by swinging a baseball bat....I think I'm in trouble! =)

We are appointment free this week which is really nice. Please continue to pray for Coy's ongoing development and wellness! We are so eternally grateful.

Coy is sitting up better and better each day. I can't believe how amazing he's doing! He's an energetic little man for sure! Here are some recent pictures...
